Perennial
Very pretty and unique plant with wiry dark purple stems
New growth is more brightly coloured, but it will continue to produce new growth through the season, so ends of stems are always dark purple.
Flowers are tiny and pale purple, very nice contrast. They will continue to grow up and up and up even as the bottom ones go to seed. Pic shows flowers as pink, they are not. It’s just the best flower I could find to show the shape of the plant.
You can trim at any time to keep the plant tidy, or let it go so that the wiry branches fill in between other plants.
It is a SLUT.
Cut back as soon as you see a couple rows of spent flowers, or accept that you’ll be pulling babies the following year.
This plant thrives in almost any soil, but is well adapted to hell strips and those tiny cracks in the driveway. You may wake up to find it in bed with you.
Regardless, it’s worth having-sigh.
Excellent texture and colour
Grow on a slope, sandy soil, rock garden... your driveway.
Guess what? It’s easy to grow from seed!
Throw it where you want it and ignore it. That’s it.
Oh, and bees love it. And deer don’t. Bonus.
You don’t need to water it.
