This particular variety I grew from seed 4 years ago and it is STUNNING. The flowers are larger and more upright than the standard purple variety.
Colour is dark rose/red with fringed petals and semi-double blooms at times.
This one also bloomed for a longer period for me, over 1 month.
One of my favourite spring flowers because it’s so FUZZY!!!
Fuzzy foliage, fuzzy flowers, fuzzy seedheads! Squeee!
Very easy care, these don’t need anything special
Regular soil, regular drainage (just not soggy)
Full sun to part shade
16” tall in bloom x 14” wide
Flowers come in May
Seed heads are ornamental, like something from Dr. Seuss
These pair nicely with ornamental grasses and miniature irises
Best success I’ve had growing from seed is by winter sowing.
